Young individuals advocating for honest competition and democratic principles
On the eve of the local elections on September 14, a unique event is set to take place in Bergisch Gladbach. A team under the motto "Youth Runs for Democracy" will participate in the city run on September 12, inviting all youth associations in Rhein-Berg to join.
The city run in Bergisch Gladbach will serve as the location for this event, which is open to all youth, regardless of their club involvement. The goal is to form a large team for the event, which is being organised by FAIReinskultur and the County Sports Youth. Registration for the event can be done online, though specific details are not provided.
This event aims to explore the concepts of Fair Play and democracy in a playful and interactive manner. It combines sports and democracy, similar to the workshop on August 16. The workshop, which took place at TS 79 at Langemarckweg, focused on Fair Play, participation, and co-determination in school and club, as well as democracy in daily life.
Fair Play is a principle centered on honesty, respect, ethical behavior, and integrity in all competitive and interactive settings, including sports, daily life, and politics. It fosters fairness by ensuring an equal opportunity for all participants, discouraging cheating, violence, and other unethical behaviors.
Training "democracy muscles" refers to cultivating the habits, skills, and attitudes that strengthen democratic participation and civic responsibility. This includes practicing active listening and respectful dialogue, engaging in community discussions and decision-making processes, upholding fairness, emphasizing empathy, equity, and responsibility, and developing ethical reasoning and integrity.
During the event, refreshments will be provided, and a Fairtrade ball will be raffled among all participants. This free workshop is a fantastic opportunity for youth aged 16-23 to learn, engage, and contribute to the promotion of fair play and democracy.
