Yideshare Launches: Yale Students' New Ride-Sharing Platform
Yideshare, a new student startup from Yale University, is making waves with its innovative shared ride platform. Launched in late August, the service allows students to sign in using their NetIDs and post ride details, aiming to make travel more sustainable and cost-effective. The team is currently working on adding messaging to the website and developing a mobile app.
Initially focused on airport trips during school breaks, Yideshare connects students with similar ride plans, enabling them to coordinate and share Uber rides or Lyft rides. The service hopes to expand its reach beyond school breaks, facilitating shared rides to local stores such as Trader Joe's or Target. The city of Hartford, Connecticut, with its airport just over 50 miles from Yale, could potentially serve as a departure point for Yideshare users.
To boost user engagement, Yideshare is offering a $25 Uber gift card giveaway around the upcoming October break. The startup has received a boost of $500 from the Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking at Yale to support its software development efforts. With Bradley International Airport, the nearest airport to Yale, located just over 50 miles from campus, Yideshare is well-positioned to make a significant impact on student travel.
Yideshare's mission to cut down both emissions and cost for student riders is gaining traction. By facilitating shared Uber rides and expanding its services beyond school breaks, the startup is making travel more convenient and sustainable for Yale students. With the support of the Tsai Center and upcoming giveaways, Yideshare is poised for growth and success.
