Yale College Council Approves $475K Adobe Creative Cloud Stipend Program

The Yale College Council Senate has approved a new stipend program to help students and campus organizations afford Adobe Creative Cloud licenses. The program, initiated by Jerome Haferd, will open applications on a Monday at 8 a.m. and close the following Friday at 8 p.m., with notices distributed through YCC and first-generation low-income student newsletters.

The program will provide $1,500 in support, with additional funding from the Undergraduate Organizations Funding Committee (UOFC) that allocated $3,500 for publication groups. This allows the program to cover roughly 42 full Adobe licenses, or more partial licenses, using funds from the senate initiatives budget. Applicants will be ranked based on a published rubric by the senate's financial policy team.

Initially, the senate tabled the proposal due to concerns about its compliance with the YCC constitution and budget uncertainty. However, after revisions, the program was approved. The revised program allows only individual students, not 'campus organization representatives', to apply, to comply with the YCC constitution. Applicants will now provide demographic information and proof of purchase for reimbursement. The UOFC team has also announced that it will cover up to seven Adobe Creative Cloud subscriptions per group for publication leaders.

The Adobe stipend plan is set to open on a Monday at 8 a.m. and close the following Friday at 8 p.m., with notices distributed through YCC and first-generation low-income student newsletters. The program aims to support students and campus organizations in accessing Adobe Creative Cloud licenses, with a total budget of roughly $475,000 allocated to UOFC for the school year.
