World War II veterans set to compete in Tomsk region's vocational skills tournament

The upcoming Abilympics, a professional skills championship for people with disabilities, will feature seven veterans of the Special Military Operation (SVO) from the Tomsk region. This event, which plays a significant role in the rehabilitation and reintegration of disabled veterans, is held at the initiative of the President of Russia and forms part of the national project 'Youth and Children'.

The Abilympics serves as a platform for veterans to demonstrate their professional skills, gain confidence, and improve employment opportunities. It is an international movement aiming to promote professional skills among persons with disabilities, including SVO veterans who have experienced injuries or disabilities.

In Russia, the Abilympics has been instrumental in supporting disabled military veterans' rehabilitation and social adaptation. This competition encourages empowerment through skill development, helping veterans regain a sense of purpose and social inclusion after military service and injury.

Among the Tomsk region participants, Anton Kaidarov will compete as a UAV Operator, Semen Krymskiy will showcase his skills in Locksmithing, Aleksey Petrekeyev will demonstrate his talent in Wood Carving, and Alexander Fedchenko will showcase his expertise in Automobile Repair and Maintenance. Meanwhile, Aleksey Ganin and Zhanaт Zhumangaliyev will compete in the Performing Arts discipline.

The veterans' preparation for the Abilympics was overseen by teachers and vocational training masters from Tomsk technical schools and colleges. Moreover, the veterans will have opportunities for internships and consolidate their practical skills during the competition.

The Abilympics professional skills championship begins tomorrow in Kazan. As the event unfolds, it is hoped that these veterans will not only showcase their talents but also find new job opportunities as a result of their participation.

In the Tomsk region, there are programs such as "SVO's Career" and "Our Heroes" dedicated to professional training, retraining, and employment for SVO participants. These initiatives aim to support veterans in their journey towards rehabilitation and social adaptation.

The Abilympics is a testament to the importance of empowering people with disabilities, including veterans, through skill development and social inclusion. As the competition begins, we look forward to witnessing the remarkable talents and resilience of these participants.

  1. Beyond just demonstrating their skills, the Abilympics also offers career development opportunities for the participating veterans, as they can showcase their talents to potential employers and take advantage of internships and practical skill consolidation.
  2. As sports and sports-betting are often avenues for leisure and investing one's own resources, it's crucial to note that they are separate from the veterans' primary goal of education-and-self-development, career-development, and social reintegration through the Abilympics.
