Bergische University and Technical University of Košice Strengthen Partnership at World University Games

Bergische University Wuppertal (BUW) and the Technical University of Košice (TUKE) have strengthened their long-standing partnership during the World University Games, held in Essen, Germany. The collaboration, which dates back to the early 1980s and is aligned with the town twinning between Wuppertal and Košice established in 1980, has fostered scientific and historical ties over more than 40 years.

Past Collaborations

The partnership has involved continuous exchange on joint projects, particularly in research, teaching, and knowledge transfer. Representatives from TUKE have engaged with BUW faculties such as the Schumpeter School of Business and Economics and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Media Technology during official visits. The partnership is symbolically important and has been supported by participation in events like the World University Games 2025.

Future Plans

Future plans include intensifying student and doctoral student exchanges, especially within the Erasmus program framework. Organizing internships both in the Košice region and the Bergisch city-triangle is another goal, aimed at enhancing practical experience and regional cooperation. Pursuing joint applications for EU funding to support scientific events and collaborative research projects is also on the agenda, with the aim of deepening integration in research and innovation.

During their visit, the Slovak delegation met with representatives of the Schumpeter School of Business and Economics and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, and Media Technology. The meeting aimed to further develop the long-standing university partnership and set new impulses for cooperation.

Student Involvement

15 students from Bergische University volunteered at the World University Games, serving as athletes, officials, and venue support. Dennis Fink, head of "UniSports at Bergische University," emphasized the importance of being present and in dialogue during the games. The festival stand, organized by "UniSport," offered interactive activities and experiments on the topic of green chemistry. The students forged valuable connections during their volunteering at the event.

Dennis Fink also highlighted the value of political visibility for student sports, stating that events like the World University Games demonstrate the potential in student sports. The participation in official receptions and meeting representatives from state and federal politics underscored the importance of the visit. The Games provided a festive sporting occasion to revive this established partnership.
