New President of Park University: Shane B. Smeed
Shane B. Smeed has been appointed as the 18th president of Park University, effective from January 1, 2022. Smeed brings a wealth of experience in higher education to his new role, having served for 23 years in progressive positions.
Smeed holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business operations from DeVry Institute of Technology and a Master of Arts degree in student personnel administration from St. Louis University. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in higher education administration from the same institution.
Before joining Park University in 2015, Smeed served as a vice president at Kaplan University (now Purdue University Global). Prior to that, he held various leadership roles at DeVry University, including four years as president in Kansas City, Mo. Smeed also served as a vice president and chief operating officer at Ottawa (Kan.) University.
Smeed's tenure at Park University began in September 2015, where he served as the vice president and chief operating officer. He later took on the role of interim president in late November 2020. Vince Clark, chair of the University's Board of Trustees, approved Smeed's appointment.
Smeed is honored and humbled to be chosen as the president of Park University and looks forward to its 150th anniversary in 2025. He is committed to providing strategic and tactical leadership to more than half of the University's staff in various areas.
