UK-India Trade and Investment Surge to US$ 27 Billion

The UK, a significant investor in India, has a cumulative investment of around US$ 30 billion, making it the sixth largest investor. This robust relationship, marked by strong historical ties and a thriving trade partnership, has seen bilateral trade expand to US$ 27 billion in 2020.

The India-UK Partnership, elevated to a Strategic Partnership level in 2004 under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, aims to foster cooperation across key sectors such as defence, space, and civil nuclear energy. This elevation reflects the depth and breadth of the relationship, which is further strengthened by the substantial presence of the Indian diaspora in Britain.

The UK, too, benefits from Indian investment, with India being among the top foreign investors. This mutual investment and trade have seen significant growth over the past five years, with bilateral trade expanding from around US$ 22 billion in 2015.

The UK-India partnership, with its strong historical ties, robust trade, and significant investment, continues to flourish. The Strategic Partnership, now over 15 years old, has opened avenues for cooperation in critical sectors, further cementing the bond between the two nations.
