TURKEY'S NEW GASTRONOMY HIGH SCHOOLS ACROSS THE COUNTRY

Turkey introduces gastronomy high schools in every one of its 7 regions

Türkiye is stepping up its game in preserving and showcasing its culinary heritage with seven new gastronomy-focused high schools, one for each region. This initiative is spearheaded by the Education Ministry to offer vocational training in gastronomy and augment students' understanding of the cultural, historical, and agricultural factors behind traditional Turkish cuisine.

Let's dive into the unique regional focuses and what each school has to offer:

Istanbul Ottoman Cuisine Gastronomy High School - Highlights the elegant blend of traditional Ottoman palace cuisine with urban flavors.

Antalya Gastronomy High School - Emphasizes the use of endemic plants and Mediterranean culinary traditions, leveraging the region's rich biodiversity and local ingredients.

For the other regional schools, like Gaziantep, Konya, Trabzon, Izmir, and Erzurum gastronomy high schools, the focus is on local specialties and traditional recipes, mirroring Turkey's diverse culinary landscape.

These schools have innovative curriculums aiming to teach traditional Turkish cooking techniques, incorporate sustainable and waste-free practices, and offer training in contemporary gastronomy, food presentation, and hospitality skills.

Students will also attend classes on local and endemic ingredients, culinary history, and cultural context to foster a deep understanding of their culinary heritage. These new gastronomy schools seek to prepare students for careers in the culinary arts and hospitality industries.

While we await more information on the exact curriculum specifics, it's clear that Turkey is eager to promote and share its rich culinary heritage with the world. Each school will have a distinct focus tailored to its regional culinary traditions and ingredients, allowing students to explore and embrace their unique cultural identities in the world of gastronomy.

Emine Erdoğan, the first lady, emphasized the transformative potential of Turkish cuisine on the global stage: "Each part of our cuisine has the potential to become a standalone attraction. The key is to bring this powerful cultural asset to the world stage with the right strategies."

Count us excited to see what these new schools have in store for Turkey's culinary future!
