Transforming Complexity: Bridging the Gap from Theoretical Knowledge to Real-World Application

In the era of remote learning, Sabrina Timmermans, a student at our institution's AOS in Web Design program, has thrived. Sabrina's journey began when she started studying online at the age of 17 due to her epilepsy, a necessity that ultimately led her to her passion.

Initially, adapting to co-existing with family members while learning was challenging for Sabrina. However, she persevered and focused on her goal: to work in the web design field and create websites for a living.

In the beginning, Sabrina's projects were simple, static websites with basic HTML coding. But as she progressed, she learned to code more properly, gaining knowledge of attributes that can be applied to HTML and understanding CSS.

One of Sabrina's favourite classes was Bootstrap Using Dreamweaver I and II, where she honed her skills in responsive design techniques. These techniques enabled her to create websites that perform well across different devices and screen sizes, a crucial skill in today's digital age.

As Sabrina's studies progressed, her projects became more complex and interactive. She began incorporating JavaScript to add dynamic elements and improve user experience. Her design aesthetics matured, showing a more refined use of typography, colour theory, and branding consistency.

Sabrina's work culminated in a capstone project, a professional-grade multi-page website with interactive features, advanced responsiveness, and a polished visual style. Her favourite project, the bike shop website, required the use of flexbox, SVGs, and logo creation.

Sabrina's work can be found on her Instagram profile, @sabrinatimmermans_web, and her Adobe portfolio, Sabrina Timmermans - My Portfolio. She advises those considering online education to seize the opportunity and study online, as it offers equal value to in-person education.

Despite the transition to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic not being a significant change for Sabrina, her online education experience has been positive and worthwhile. Sabrina's story is a testament to the power of resilience, determination, and the transformative potential of online learning in shaping a successful career in web design.

Sabrina Timmermans, initially facing challenges with co-existing with family members while learning online at a young age due to epilepsy, found her passion for education-and-self-development in the field of web design.
