Transformed SFAI Campus Shutdown Site to Emerge as Artist Hub

The heart of San Francisco's artistic community is now home to the California Academy of Studio Arts (CASA), a revitalized artistic hub standing stellar at the old San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) campus. This badass, philanthropist-backed arts center promises to nurture the talents of 30 burgeoning artists each year, thanks to Laurene Powell Jobs - a high-power art collector and major supporter.

Powell Jobs, who dropped a cool $30 million on the Chester Street campus last year, has put together a team to transform SFAI into CASA. The ambitious program at CASA will provide artists with private studios, shared workspaces, and professional mentors to hone their craft, all for free. No tuition fees! A series of seminars led by CASA's director, Abbye Churchill, will keep the artistic juices flowing.

Now, the campus undergoes a facelift, renovating the student digs and restoring a Diego Rivera mural from 1931 that's been keeping an artistic eye on things since its creation. Once the construction dust settles, the mural will be unveiled for the public to ogle at.

CASA's model is inspired by the revolutionary spirit of Black Mountain College - an experimental North Carolina institution that churned out artistic heavyweights like Ruth Asawa, Merce Cunningham, John Cage, and many others. The small, private college, which closed its doors in 1957, left an indelible mark on the art world.

So, fasten your seatbelts, San Fran! The future of art is being born at CASA, ready to unleash a tidal wave of artistic awesomeness and shape the arts scene for generations to come.
