Thousands Seek Training Opportunities in Berlin-Brandenburg
In Berlin and Brandenburg, a significant number of training positions remain unfilled, particularly in the sectors of administration and sales, according to the latest data from the Federal Employment Agency.
As of August 2025, over 9,000 young people in Berlin alone are actively seeking a training position, a 8.9% increase from the previous year. Simultaneously, there are nearly 6,000 vacant training positions reported by employers in Berlin, with over 1,200 in retail and around 600 in administration.
The situation is similar in Brandenburg, where around 4,500 people are looking for a training position, a 7.7% increase from the previous year. Here, there are approximately 5,500 company-based vocational training positions unfilled, with around 1,210 in retail, 266 in trade, and 210 in mechanical engineering and industrial technology.
Ramona Schröder, head of the Berlin-Brandenburg regional directorate of the Federal Employment Agency, stated that we are currently in a "hot phase" on the Berlin-Brandenburg training market, with opportunities and challenges. She also expressed optimism about the potential to bring young people and companies together.
However, it's important to note that the statistics from the Federal Employment Agency only represent a part of the real training market.
In addition to administration and sales, there is a notable shortage of skilled workers and apprenticeship positions in health-related technical assistance, such as anesthesiology and surgical technical assistance. The Academy of Health reports many unfilled positions in these specialized medical training professions, reflecting a broad skilled worker shortage in healthcare-related technical fields as well.
Despite the lack of detailed numeric comparative statistics, the continued presence of thousands of vacancies, especially in administration, sales, and healthcare-related technical assistance, points towards a sustained or elevated unfilled training position trend in 2025 compared to 2024.
