Switzerland Allocates CHF 10 Million for Dual Vocational Training Development in Romania

Switzerland-Romania business association, CCE-R, announces a CHF 10 million fund allocation to boost the development of dual education in Romania.

The funds are part of a program aimed at fostering the integration of the youth into the job market, facilitated through dual vocational training. This approach introduces students to hands-on, real-work skills, as they train within companies. Concurrently, the initiative seeks to bolster the capacities of employers, professional groups, and government institutions to collaboratively create a responsive and robust vocational education system tailored to economic demands, as outlined by CCE-R.

Implementing this program is the National Center for the Development of Vocational and Technical Education (CNDIPT), in association with the Swiss Federal University for Vocational Education and Training (SFUVET). The project receives 15% co-funding from the Romanian government.

Dr. Adriana Cioca, CCE-R's president, emphasizes the transformative potential of dual education, asserting, "Switzerland demonstrates that dual education is a strategic investment, not a backup plan. In Switzerland, 65% of 15-19-year-olds embrace vocational education through the dual system. Such a strategic choice offers young people a promising career trajectory and businesses the skilled workforce they require." She further underscores Romania's capacity to forge an effective dual education system, crafted to suit local contexts, through partnerships involving local government, schools, and businesses.

Although Switzerland's accomplished dual education system offers a strong model for labor market integration, it does not directly input in Romania's educational reformation efforts. Romania's progress is chiefly driven by its own national reforms and EU-aligned policies. The Switzerland-Romania Chamber of Commerce (CCE-R) largely promotes trade and economic cooperation between the two countries with no specific, documented role in Romania's educational initiatives. However, they might indirectly support educational advancements through economic development activities that facilitate business partnerships.
