SMPTE Honors 35 Industry Leaders at 2024 Awards Gala

SMPTE, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, has revealed the recipients of its 2024 honors. A total of 35 individuals and organizations will be recognized, with 15 awards to be bestowed at the annual Awards Gala in Los Angeles on October 24, 2024. The event will celebrate notable figures like Richard Edlund, Arthur C. Clarke, and Victoria Alonso.

Among the honorees, Dr. Jens-Rainer Ohm will receive The Digital Processing Medal for his leadership in developing MPEG and ITU video compression standards. John Mailhot will be awarded The David Sarnoff Medal for promoting the adoption of the SMPTE ST 2110 standard. Ioan Allen and Victoria Alonso will both receive Honorary Membership for their significant contributions to audio production and entertainment industry leadership, respectively.

Chaitanya Chinchlikar will receive The Excellence in Education Medal for his efforts in mainstreaming media and entertainment education in India. Franz Kraus will be honored with Honorary Membership for advancing the cinematography vision of ARRI corporation. Additionally, Unreal Engine will be recognized with The Workflow Systems Medal for enabling new options for creators in media production.

The SMPTE Awards Gala 2024 promises to be a prestigious event, celebrating the achievements of these remarkable individuals and organizations. Their contributions have significantly impacted the motion imaging industry, and SMPTE is proud to honor their accomplishments.
