Sewit Adherom Named New Mastercard Foundation CEO
Sewit Adherom, a seasoned technology leader and co-founder of Gro Intelligence, has been appointed as the incoming President and Chief Executive Officer of Mastercard Foundation. Adherom will succeed Reeta Roy and take the helm on January 1, 2026.
Adherom's impressive background includes degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut and an MBA from Columbia University. She has served on the Mastercard Foundation's Board of Directors for the past two years and has held leadership roles within the organization, most recently as Managing Director and Head of Education and Learning.
Her mandate at the foundation will focus on expanding its impact across Africa and within Indigenous communities in Canada. Adherom will be responsible for deepening partnerships with local organizations and driving solutions designed and led by the communities the foundation serves. The Mastercard Foundation's vision is to secure dignified work for 30 million young people by 2030, and Adherom's extensive experience spanning developed and emerging markets makes her an ideal candidate to lead this mission.
