In an innovative approach to bridging the gap between technology and education, the IT-First-Aid Project is training young students across Baden-Württemberg to serve as tech-savvy helpers in schools.

The three-day camp, organised by the BG300 educational organisation in collaboration with EnBW and Netze BW, has seen over 360 students from various schools in Stuttgart and beyond, including Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, being trained this year.

Clarissa Eberhard, the school's deputy head, supports this initiative, recognising its potential to introduce young people to the world of IT and technology.

The IT first aiders are not just tech-savvy individuals, but they are also trained to provide help and support in IT-related issues in schools. They are like school nurses for technology, as they are needed and can help others with technical problems.

The training covers a wide range of topics, from the basics, such as taking apart a laptop, finding errors, and replacing parts, to more complex issues like AI and network problems. It also extends to responsible use of technology and media, ensuring that these young helpers understand the importance of cyberbullying awareness, recognising fake news on social media, and understanding content created by AI instead of humans.

Virtual reality glasses and drones are used in the IT-First-Aid course, providing hands-on experience and practical learning. The training also includes lessons on the opportunities that IT, AI, and robots offer in the workplace, demonstrated by EnBW.

Alper, a participant in the IT course in Stuttgart, finds it interesting to be called out of class to help others with technical issues. The IT first aiders will receive further training through regular workshops over the next ten months.

The Girls' Castle Secondary School trained some of its students as IT first aiders last year, with 60% of participants in the Stuttgart IT first aider course being female. This initiative encourages gender diversity in tech-related fields, a crucial step towards a more inclusive future.

The "Region of Lifesavers" project, which focuses on medical emergency skills, serves as a model for the IT-First-Aid Project. By leveraging an app-based alert platform to dispatch trained first aiders rapidly, this IT-augmented approach to first responder mobilization is proving effective in reducing response times and improving survival chances from emergencies.

This system integrates IT, demonstrating its potential to transform various sectors, including education and emergency services. By involving students with tech backgrounds in such programs, it enhances practical learning and community engagement, likely contributing to better preparedness and real-world application of their skills.

For more detailed information about the IT first aider training curriculum or specific training schedules, contacting local emergency services, educational institutions, or the non-profit "Region der Lebensretter e.V." would be appropriate.

  1. Integrating technology into education, the IT-First-Aid Project is also exploring its potential in the realm of lifestyle and self-development, aiming to empower young students with skills that extend beyond tech support.
  2. As the IT-First-Aid Project evolves, it's inspiring visions of a future where education-and-self-development merge with technology, fostering a unique combination of tech-savvy individuals, responsible digital citizens, and lifelong learners.
