Schools in Lower Bavaria and other regions of Bavaria received threat emails earlier this week, prompting police investigations. In the district of Kelheim, a school in Riedenburg received an email at around 7:00 AM, reportedly containing a bomb threat. The police conducted a search at the school, but no suspicious items were found. Classes have resumed, with assurances that students and teachers are not in danger.

The investigation into the originator of the email is ongoing. This incident is part of a broader regional context, as similar threat emails targeting schools have been reported in Munich and Middle Franconia. In Middle Franconia, these were bomb threats for the same day, sent to at least ten schools, although the police assessed these threats as not credible.

Across Germany, over 100 schools have been targeted with bomb threats, primarily via email. These incidents have occurred in various federal states, with states like Thuringia, Saxony, and Rhineland-Palatinate severely affected. The State Criminal Police Office of Bavaria has acknowledged these threats as part of a nationwide phenomenon.

In neighboring Austria, more than 50 institutions, primarily schools, received similar threats, but no suspicious objects have been found. The investigation is proceeding at full speed, with Austrian authorities in close contact with international partners.

The broader context indicates ongoing investigations across Germany and Austria. Although specific updates on the investigation in Bavaria are limited, it is clear that the authorities are taking the threats seriously and are working diligently to identify the originators and ensure the safety of the schools and their students and staff.

  1. In light of the nationwide increase in bomb threats targeting schools, the community policy for education-and-self-development institutions in Germany and Austria has strongly emphasized the importance of vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
  2. As the investigations into the threat emails continue, there has been a call for more vocational training programs in crime-and-justice fields to strengthen the capabilities of authorities in addressing similar incidents in the future.
