Schleswig-Holstein Welcomes New School Year: Police Urge Caution

The new school year 2025/2026 commences on Monday, 08.09.2025, in Schleswig-Holstein, with many first-graders embarking on their educational journey for the first time. The Police Directorate Bad Segeberg urges motorists to drive carefully around schools and residential areas, as children may behave unpredictably.

Bicycle safety is paramount. To ride on roads, bicycles must have two independent brakes, a bell, front and rear lights, side reflectors, non-slip pedals, and a secure power supply. Children should only cycle to school after passing the bicycle test in the 4th grade and wearing a helmet.

Parents play a crucial role. They should practice the school route with their children, avoid morning rush, and dress them in bright or reflective clothing. Motorists must drive safely and considerately, as children may not accurately estimate distances and speeds, and can be difficult to see behind parked cars.

The Police Directorate Bad Segeberg, led by spokesman Michael Bergmann, wishes all children and parents a happy start to the new school year. They remind everyone that increased speed checks will be conducted near schools and school routes in the coming days. Safe travels to all young scholars.
