Saint John the Divine Cathedral to admit third group into its ecumenical communal initiative program

The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine, a renowned Gothic cathedral and the mother church of the Episcopal Diocese of New York, continues to serve diverse communities through a multitude of activities. From worship and pastoral care to educational programs, community outreach, cultural and civic events, international ecumenical initiatives, and the preservation of its historic site, the cathedral is a hub of spiritual and cultural activity.

One such initiative is the Community at the Crossing (CATC), a unique program that combines intentional community living, daily prayer, and ecumenism, fostering productive dialogue across diverse religious backgrounds. The third cohort of CATC will be vested at the cathedral on Sunday, September 21, at 10:30 a.m.

CATC offers different levels of commitment, with full-time participants residing on the cathedral's grounds and local members joining part-time. The current cohort comprises 13 young adults aged 22-33 from across the United States, as well as international participants from Japan and India.

The cathedral also presents the Dialogues on Divinity speaker series, which delves into contemporary issues through a theological lens and offers an accessible space for direct engagement with influential speakers. The series is pay-as-you-wish, with day-of rush tickets available for students. Upcoming Dialogues on Divinity events in 2025-2026 have not been specified, but more information and the RSVP for the next session can be found on the cathedral's website.

In the coming months, the cathedral will host a series of thought-provoking events. On Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., Dr. Amy-Jill Levine will discuss "In the Beginning was the Word": Historical and Theological, Jewish and Christian, Perspectives on the Prologue to the Gospel of John. On Sunday, May 10, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., Imam Khalid Latif will explore "The role of Faith Communities and Leaders in Shaping Public Discourse." On Monday, February 23, 2026, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Fr. John Chryssavgis will delve into "To Earth You Shall Return: Creatureliness, Christian Identity, and Human Hope."

The cathedral also hosts events focusing on interfaith dialogue and peacebuilding. On Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., Hana Bendcowsky and John Munayer from the Rossing Center for Education and Dialogue in Jerusalem will discuss "Conflict and the Healing of Hatred."
