Safaricom Ethiopia Launches TechStart to Empower 125,000 Youth with Digital Skills
Safaricom Ethiopia has launched an ambitious initiative, Safaricom Ethiopia TechStart, aiming to empower 125,000 young Ethiopians with digital and cloud technology skills over the next three years. The program, implemented in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Skills Center and AWS Educate, is open to any Ethiopian aged 18 or older with an active Safaricom SIM.
The initiative supports Ethiopia's transition to a tech-enabled economy by providing foundational training and continuous learning opportunities. Participants will gain access to AWS Educate's digital content library, enabling them to build skills in cloud computing, machine learning, and other emerging technologies.
The Safaricom Ethiopia Foundation, the driving force behind this program, is committed to fostering societal growth through education and technology. As part of the Vodacom Group's pledge to upskill 1 million youth across Africa within three years, the foundation will sponsor certification fees for top-performing participants who complete their courses with distinction. This support could extend to mentorship, networking opportunities, and further educational resources, helping participants to excel in their tech careers.
Safaricom Ethiopia TechStart is set to transform the tech landscape in Ethiopia, providing a pathway for young people to acquire in-demand digital skills. With the backing of the Safaricom Ethiopia Foundation and AWS, the program is poised to make a significant impact, contributing to Ethiopia's economic growth and technological advancement.
