Romanian youths clinch four medals in the Balkan Physics Competition

Romanian students have once again proven their academic prowess on the international stage, with impressive performances at the Balkan Physics Olympiad (BPO) and the Asian Physics Olympiad earlier this year.

At the BPO, held between June 26-30 in North Macedonia, Romanian students won a total of four medals. David Neatăgea, from International Informatics Theoretical High School, Bucharest, and Alexandru Jicu, from Gheorghe Vrańceanu National College, Bacău, both won gold medals, while Antonio Stoica, from Mircea cel Bătrân National College, Constanța, and Dragos Poputuță, from Grigore Moisil Theoretical High School, Timișoara, each took home a silver medal.

The event was hosted by the city of Ohrid and was exclusively for juniors. The entire training and selection process of the Romanian national team was coordinated by Prof. Ana Naghi, General Inspector at the Ministry of Education and Research.

The Ministry of Education made the announcement on their Facebook page, along with a photo sourced from Ministerul Educatiei, congratulating all students, teachers, and parents for their constant support in achieving such performance.

In a separate competition, the Asian Physics Olympiad, Romanian students participated as guests and won seven medals. The specific medals won were not disclosed, but it is a testament to the high level of academic excellence displayed by these students.

Prof. Adriana Radu was also part of Romania's team at the BPO from Mihai Viteazul National College in Ploiești, and Prof. Dr. Costin Dobrota led Romania's team at the BPO from Dimitrie Cantemir National College in Onesști.

Historically, Romanian students have performed well in international physics olympiads, often winning multiple medals. However, without explicit data from verified sources, the exact medal counts for the 2021 BPO and Asian Physics Olympiad cannot be confirmed.

These achievements serve as a source of pride for Romania and a testament to the country's commitment to nurturing academic talent. The Ministry of Education continues to support and encourage students in their pursuit of knowledge and excellence.

In the realm of education-and-self-development, Romanian students demonstrated their abilities not only in academic fields such as physics but also in sports activities. For instance, during the Asian Physics Olympiad, Romanian students, as guests, won an impressive seven medals, showcasing their versatility and competitive spirit, even in a separate competition.
