RNA Pioneer Khvorova Wins €2.5M Else Kröner Fresenius Prize

On May 15, 2025, Prof. Dr. Anastasia Khvorova will receive the prestigious Else Kröner Fresenius Prize for Medical Research at the Staedel Museum in Frankfurt am Main. The prize, worth 2.5 million euros, is one of the most highly endowed research prizes globally. This event coincides with the 100th birthday of Else Kröner, the founder of the Else Kröner-Fresenius Foundation.

Khvorova's groundbreaking work in RNA-based therapies will be honoured. She focuses on treating genetic and neurodegenerative diseases, including Huntington's chorea. The prize money will support her ongoing research, aiming to develop novel RNA molecules that prevent toxic protein production in the brain.

The ceremony will also feature a lecture by Nobel laureate Prof. Dr. Craig Mello, who will discuss RNA therapies. Additionally, there will be a retrospective on Else Kröner's life and legacy, celebrating her significant contributions to medical research.

The Else Kröner Fresenius Prize for Medical Research, worth 2.5 million euros, will be awarded to Prof. Dr. Anastasia Khvorova on May 15, 2025.
