Revised 2025 WASSCE Results Issued by WAEC Due to Scoring Inaccuracies

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has admitted to serious marking errors in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, particularly affecting the English Language Objective Test (Paper 3) and other serialised subjects like Mathematics, Biology, and Economics.

In a statement signed and released by WAEC's Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, the council acknowledged the errors were due to the incorrect use of serialised code files in the marking process.

As a result of correcting these errors, WAEC released revised results on August 8, 2025. The review showed that 1,239,884 representing 62.9% of the candidates obtained Credits and above in at least five subjects.

WAEC expressed deep regret for the discrepancy, acknowledging the emotional and administrative challenges caused to candidates, parents, schools, and educational authorities. The error arose after introducing a new security measure called paper serialisation, aimed at curbing examination malpractice, but technical bugs affected the integrity of the scoring in the initial result release.

Following the discovery, WAEC temporarily shut down the result checker portal to prevent access to the flawed results while the review was ongoing. The council is embarking on a comprehensive review of the 2025 WASSCE results due to discovered glitches and bugs.

Dr. Amos Dangut, Head of WAEC Nigeria, personally apologised on behalf of the organisation and thanked the government and education stakeholders for their support during the review process. He identified the error in the previous results of 754,545 candidates, representing 38.32% of candidates, who obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

Candidates who have previously checked their results are directed to recheck them due to the review. The ongoing review has resulted in the temporary denial of result checking and viewing on WAEC's result checking portal.

WAEC is implementing measures to prevent recurrence of such mistakes. Dr Dangut stated that with the review, 62.96% of the candidates who sat for the examination had credits and above in a minimum of five subjects including English Language and Mathematics.

The council urges candidates to check the fresh results 48 hours later and assures that the revised results accurately reflect the performance of the candidates in the examination.
