The Mahn and Memorial Site in Düsseldorf has reopened its doors to the public, following a temporary closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. From May 12, visitors can explore the thought-provoking exhibition titled "75 Years of Peace and Freedom in Apeldoorn and Düsseldorf," a joint venture between the Mahn and Memorial Site and the Apeldoorn Centre for Contemporary Culture.

Admission to the Mahn and Memorial Site remains free, and visitors are encouraged to follow hygiene and social distancing rules to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. The exhibition consists of ten panels, presented in English, and will be on display from July 7 to September 6.

The exhibition is the result of a youth exchange project initiated by the "Gelre Association International Apeldoorn" and the Mahn and Memorial Site. Students from Düsseldorf's Friedrich-Rückert-Gymnasium and Apeldoorn's Veluws College Mheenpark have been exploring the historical situation in the spring of 1945, resistance actions, and their relevance to the present since September 2019. The students' work is showcased through posters displayed as part of the exhibition.

Both Apeldoorn and Düsseldorf were liberated without a fight on April 17, 1945, following independent surrenders by resistance groups in both cities to nearby Allies on April 16, 1945. The exhibition aims to commemorate this historic event and promote reconciliation, mutual understanding, and cooperation between Germany and the Netherlands.

The Mahn and Memorial Site is open Tuesday to Friday and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm, and Saturday from 1 pm to 5 pm. Due to COVID-19 regulations, visitor numbers are limited to a maximum of 10 at a time. Visitors are required to wear mouth and nose coverings inside the site.

The Mahn and Memorial Site is closed on Monday. For those planning a visit, please note the adjusted opening hours and guidelines to ensure a smooth and safe experience. This unique exhibition offers a valuable opportunity to learn about the shared history of Apeldoorn and Düsseldorf, and the enduring spirit of peace and freedom that binds them together.
