Fresno Unified School District Kicks Off 2022-2023 School Year with Emphasis on College and Career Readiness

The 2022-2023 school year marks a significant period for Fresno Unified School District as it welcomes over 70,000 students across its 106 schools. This year, the district has set long-term goals surrounding college and career readiness, educational equity, and student success through community and higher education partnerships.

One of the key new initiatives for this academic year is the expansion of dual enrollment and advanced academics programs. These programs aim to provide students with the opportunity to earn transferable college credits at no cost, enhancing access to higher education. Partnerships with institutions such as Fresno State and Fresno City College will equip students with critical skills for college and career readiness.

In addition, summer and enrichment programs have been introduced to boost academic preparedness and foster a college-going mindset. These programs contribute to the district's regional educational equity objectives.

The district has also emphasized the use of existing campuses for educational development. For instance, the Farber Educational Campus has been utilised for events such as the EdTech Camp, which promotes educator collaboration on educational technology. This suggests an ongoing focus on modernizing and maximizing current facilities for educational development.

Superintendent Misty Her is starting her first year as the official superintendent. Safety is a top priority for the school district, and school and local leaders have shared work underway, goals in place, and important reminders for the new year. Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto is reminding everyone to exercise caution when driving near schools, urging parents to follow school traffic plans and not stop on the roadway to allow passengers to exit, as this can lead to collisions and endanger children.

In terms of new physical facilities, a new Career and Technical Education (CTE) building has opened at Edison High School, and the technology arena at Tehipite is also new. Parents are being asked to update their contact information and download the district app "Parent Square" to stay informed about their child's school.
