Position Vacant: Environmental Education and Workforce Training Extension Agent
The University of Minnesota Sea Grant College Program is seeking an Environmental Literacy and Workforce Development Extension Educator to join their team. This part-time (50%) academic professional appointment, with the job code 9623 and UMN Job ID 361917, offers a competitive compensation range of $22,077.59 - $44,155.18, depending on qualifications.
The primary role of the Environmental Literacy and Workforce Development Extension Educator is to develop and deliver educational programs that enhance environmental literacy related to water resources and ecosystems. This includes creating educational content and outreach strategies to improve public understanding of aquatic environments and related environmental issues.
In addition, the role requires supporting workforce development by training individuals and groups in skills needed for careers related to water resource management, environmental science, and related fields. The educator will collaborate with university researchers and extension staff to integrate current science into community education and workforce training.
Engaging with diverse audiences, including schools, community groups, and professionals, to deliver programming and build partnerships is also a key responsibility. Assisting with program evaluation and continuous improvement to enhance impact and relevance is another important aspect of the job.
The job description also includes maintaining office spaces in a professional manner, updating computer security and virus protection software, and ensuring computer files and records are backed-up. The employee is expected to maintain a current calendar of events, travel, and program activity viewable to staff.
Preferred candidates should have a master's degree from an accredited institution with an emphasis on environmental education, science education, aquatic science, environmental studies, or a related field. They should also have obtained status as a licensed teacher in Minnesota either currently or in the past.
Preferred candidates will have experience and knowledge in teaching in the K-12, non-formal, and/or environmental literacy realms. They should also have demonstrated experience in writing science standards-aligned, inquiry-based lesson plans and a working knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards and Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards.
