PM Modi Attends RSS Centenary; Nehru's Involvement Claim Debunked
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's (RSS) centenary celebrations as the Chief Guest on 1st October 2025. The event marked a significant milestone for the RSS, which completed 100 years in September 2025. However, a recent social media claim about Nehru's involvement with the RSS has been debunked.
A viral collage of photos purports to show Nehru attending RSS shakha meetings and wearing the RSS uniform. However, these claims are false. The photos actually depict Nehru in the uniform of the Congress Seva Dal, a grassroots organization of the Indian National Congress, established in 1923 to counter British rule. The Seva Dal uniform, featuring a black cap, khaki shorts, and a stick, bears a striking resemblance to the former RSS attire.
To commemorate the RSS centenary, a postage stamp and a ₹100 coin were released. The coin bears the national emblem, an image of 'Bharat Mata' in 'Varad Mudra', accompanied by a lion and Swayamsevaks saluting her. There is no historical evidence to suggest that Nehru ever attended an RSS meeting.
While the RSS celebrates its centenary with notable events and commemorative items, it's crucial to verify historical claims. The false narrative surrounding Nehru's alleged involvement with the RSS serves as a reminder to fact-check information, especially when it's shared widely on social media.
