Part-Time Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Katherine Strong
In the heart of Rochester, New York, Dr. Katherine Strong is making a significant impact on the oral health of children and families in underserved communities. As a board-certified pediatric dentist and Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, her expertise and dedication are evident in her work.
Dr. Strong contributes to the EIOH Smilemobiles program, a pioneering initiative that brings dental services directly to those who may not have easy access to care. In this role, she provides dental care, supports outreach efforts, and promotes oral health education. Her involvement ensures the program effectively addresses oral health needs and improves access to dental care.
Leading by example, Dr. Strong prioritizes ethics and what is best for her patients. This approach is reflected in her work with the Monroe County Dental Society (MCDS), where she serves as a director on the board. She is also a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and American Dental Society.
Outside of her full-time role as a pediatric dentist at Twelve Corners Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry in Brighton, Dr. Strong has made significant contributions to the local community. Alongside Dr. Taylor Squires, she reinstated the MCDS Careers in Dentistry program, providing opportunities for local high school and college students to explore careers in dentistry.
Dr. Strong's journey in dentistry began with a chance encounter at a Monroe County Dental Society scholarship luncheon, where she met her mentor, Dr. Ritu Shah. This meeting proved instrumental, as Dr. Shah helped her with a job search in the Rochester area after residency. When looking for a part-time opportunity in a public health setting, Dr. Strong once again turned to Dr. Shah for guidance.
Being a fellow of the American Laser Study Club, Dr. Strong continues to expand her knowledge and skills, ensuring she remains at the forefront of her field. Her commitment to improving oral health and access to care makes her a valuable asset to the Rochester community.
Dr. Katherine Strong also dedicates her time to various other fields, incorporating science, health-and-wellness, education-and-self-development, and career-development in her endeavors. She collaborates with the Monroe County Dental Society (MCDS) for career-development initiatives, providing local students with opportunities to explore dentistry as a profession in the MCDS Careers in Dentistry program. Simultaneously, her membership in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and American Dental Society demonstrates her ongoing commitment to education-and-self-development within the dental field.
