In the world of user experience (UX), user interface (UI), and interaction design, the Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF) stands as a beacon of accessibility and affordability. Founded in 2002 by Mads Soegaard and Rikke Friis Dam, the IxDF has been at the forefront of online design education for almost two decades.

With a mission to democratize design knowledge, the IxDF has grown to become the largest online design school globally, boasting over 455 local groups in 92 countries. This global reach has enabled the foundation to educate over 190,000 graduates, making a significant impact on the design community.

The IxDF offers a vast array of educational resources, including articles, videos, and courses. These materials are produced with substantial investment and made available for free, aligning with the foundation's commitment to accessibility. The foundation's content is also backed by renowned authors and design leaders, such as Clayton Christensen and Don Norman, as well as top universities and companies like Stanford, Cambridge, and SAP Labs.

The IxDF's community is an active participant in its international mission. The foundation's readers and members have embraced its mission, contributing to its growth and success. The design elite have also joined the IxDF's mission, recognizing the value of its work in making high-quality design education accessible to all.

However, like many educational platforms, the IxDF faces challenges in maintaining relevance in a rapidly evolving field and ensuring the quality of its free content. Yet, the opportunities for global reach and impact are immense, especially in regions where access to design education is limited.

Currently, the IxDF is live on Product Hunt, seeking support to make a difference in the careers and lives of those not yet part of its international design community. The foundation's team, now consisting of more than 15 people scattered across a dozen different countries, is working hard to continue fulfilling its mission.

The Interaction Design Foundation's articles, including this one, are licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 3.0. The foundation provides free access to The Encyclopedia of Human-Computer Interaction, UX Daily articles, topic overview pages, and all individual textbooks, further emphasizing its commitment to accessibility.

In the words of Benedict Evans from Andreesen Horowitz, "Where Did It All Start?" The Interaction Design Foundation's journey began in 2002, and it continues to grow and evolve, driven by its mission to make UX education accessible and affordable for all. As the African proverb goes, "If you want to go far, go together." The IxDF's success is a testament to the power of collaboration and shared vision in the pursuit of a more inclusive and accessible design community.
