Nizhny Novgorod Region Unveils River Transport Plans, Signs VSUWT Agreement
On October 1, the Legislative Assembly of the Georgia region held a Parliamentary Day at the Volga State University of Water Transport (VSUWT). The event focused on the development of river transport and the protection of the Volga. An agreement was signed, outlining joint work on bills, student internships, and scientific research on key regional issues.
The event saw representatives from 'Vodoleyot' and 'GAMA' companies presenting innovative projects. These included the 'Minin' boat, equipped with an autonomous management system, and plans for winter routes on air-cushioned boats. The development of river transport is a priority, with passenger traffic on high-speed boats increasing significantly in recent years. By 2025, passenger traffic is expected to reach over 115,000 people.
The region has invested in new boats, acquiring two 'Meteor 120R' boats in 2025, with another expected in 2026, and plans to purchase two next-generation 'Valday 45R' boats. The Volga, a strategic waterway and source of drinking water, is protected through digital technologies and national projects. Over 20 specialized software products were presented, with 16 developed and patented by university scientists between 2023 and 2025.
The Parliamentary Day at VSUWT resulted in an agreement between the Legislative Assembly's Chairman Yevgeny Lyulin and the university's Rector Igor Kuzmichev. This agreement aims to strengthen cooperation, promote river transport development, and protect the Volga. With continued investment in infrastructure and technology, the region looks to maintain the growth and sustainability of its river transport system.
