New Geothermal-Powered Elementary School Breaks Ground in Blumenthal

A new elementary school in Blumenthal's Dillener quarter broke ground on September 29, 2025. The school, set to complete in the 2027/28 school year, will use geothermal energy for heating, demonstrating environmental awareness and sustainable infrastructure. It will serve around 288 children from Rönebeck, Blumenthal, and Lüssum, providing a modern learning environment.

The school will have three wings and accommodate 12 classes. It will feature a cafeteria with its own kitchen, a multi-purpose sports hall, and operate as a GE location with an inclusive concept. The headmaster's name for the 2027/28 school year is not yet public.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte and Senator for Construction, Mobility, and Urban Development Özlem Ünsal. Brebau, the project implementer, was represented by Bernd Botzenhardt, Chairman and CEO.

The new school, upon completion, will offer an inspiring learning space for many children. Its use of geothermal energy sets a positive example for sustainability. The school's facilities, including a cafeteria and sports hall, will enhance the learning experience and promote well-being.
