New educators and administrative staff commence their roles in Bamberg's school system
In the historic city of Bamberg, a significant event marked the beginning of the upcoming school year. A total of 45 new teaching trainees and 10 new principals and deputy principals were sworn in, ready to begin their service at primary and secondary schools in the city and district.
Jonas Glüsenkamp, Second Mayor and Social Affairs Officer, emphasised the importance of class teachers as key points of contact for children. He highlighted their significant role in knowledge transfer and overall community life. Teachers, he said, accompany and support students on their way to becoming independent and informed adults.
The educational region of Bamberg continues to be important, with a total of 343 active teachers employed at the primary and secondary schools in the city. In the district, the number is 784. For the upcoming school year 2025/26, approximately 6133 students will be taught at the primary schools in the district, and 2133 at the secondary schools. In the city, the numbers are 2584 students at the primary schools and 1020 at the secondary schools.
Mayor Andreas Starke praised the motivation of the new school leaders and their deputies. He expressed his confidence that they would make a positive impact on the educational landscape in Bamberg. Johann Kalb, County Administrator, echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of teachers for the future of the region. He stated that children and young people who attend schools in Bamberg will shape the future.
