New Arrivals: Foreign Scholars

The much-anticipated International Student Orientation Program at Oberlin College is set to commence on Monday, August 18, 2025. This event is a crucial part of the academic year 2025-2026, offering a wealth of information and opportunities for new and returning international students.

All F-1 and J-1 students are expected to attend and arrive on campus on August 18, 2025. Students can check-in to their housing at any time on this day, including after normal business hours.

The International Orientation Program is designed to help students adjust to life at Oberlin and in the United States. It covers a wide range of topics, including cultural and academic adjustment issues, visa and employment regulations, financial aid, and everyday life in Oberlin and the US.

For those who opt-in to the International Orientation, there is no charge for attendance. However, charges may apply for early arrivals arranged through Residence Life. Students who opt-in but do not attend the orientation events will have the housing and dining charges normally paid by the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) applied to their student account.

The International Orientation Program offers a unique opportunity for students to meet each other. It serves as a platform for new and returning international students to connect, share experiences, and start their academic journey together.

For dual-citizens, permanent residents, US citizens living abroad, and other non-F-1 and J-1 visa holders who wish to attend, requests can be made by emailing isss@our website. Requests from non-F-1 and J-1 visa holders must be made before August 1.

While the exact Pre-Orientation schedule and related details are not yet available, Oberlin’s general events calendar for August 2025 lists some welcome and campus events around the time new students typically arrive, such as the FGIE Welcome Reception on August 22, 2025, and a Community Connection Ice Cream Social on August 24, 2025.

For the most accurate and detailed information about the 2025 Pre-Orientation Program, including housing and visa/employment guidance, it is recommended to check Oberlin College’s official international student or orientation webpages directly or contact Oberlin’s Center for International Student Services. The current version of the International Student Pre-Orientation Schedule is available online.

Engaging in the International Student Orientation Program at Oberlin College offers a chance for significant education-and-self-development through learning about cultural and academic adjustment issues, visa and employment regulations, financial aid, and everyday life in Oberlin and the US. This program also facilitates learning opportunities by providing a platform for new and returning international students to connect, share experiences, and start their academic journey together.
