Museum unveils Charlotte Bingham '27 as the Luise and Morton Kaish Fellow for the 2025-26 term.
In a notable development for the art community, Charlotte Bingham, a junior at Syracuse University, has been chosen as the 2025-26 Luise and Morton Kaish Scholar at the Syracuse University Art Museum. The Kaish Scholar program, initiated in 2021, is an exceptional opportunity for undergraduate students from any discipline to engage in original research rooted in the museum's permanent collection. The program is supported by the philanthropic gift of Syracuse University alumni and prominent artists, Luise '46, G'51 and Morton Kaish '49. Charlotte, who is majoring in anthropology and digital humanities with a minor in museum studies, has limited experience interpreting art but is eager to explore this new frontier. Her curiosity about interpreting art and analyzing things is what makes her an ideal candidate for the scholar program. The Kaish Scholar program provides funding for scholars to work directly with museum staff on exhibitions, scholarly publications, and public programming. Charlotte is looking forward to developing her research interests and gaining experience in a museum setting. The museum's current permanent collection exhibition, "Human/Environment: 4,000 Years of Art," serves as a starting point for Charlotte's research. Additionally, other works by Luise and Morton Kaish also provide a starting point for her research, as she stands with Luise Kaish's "Portal IX" in the Syracuse University Art Museum Luise and Morton Kaish Gallery. Charlotte's parents, Juliet and John Bingham, are proud of her achievement. She has studied abroad in Strasbourg and Edinburgh, experiences that she believes will enrich her research and understanding of art. Charlotte sees art and anthropology as deeply connected, as both are trying to reproduce or represent something about human culture. She believes that the Kaish Scholar program will provide her with the perfect platform to explore this connection further. The Kaish Scholar program is scheduled to run from 2025 to 2026. It is located at the Syracuse University Art Museum and is open to undergraduate students from any discipline. Charlotte is excited about the opportunity and is ready to immerse herself in the world of art.
