Monthly History Hour by BCM in July to delve into the history of the Northern Kentucky Athletic Directors Hall of Fame.
The Behringer-Crawford Museum (BCM) is set to host an engaging virtual event, the NKY History Hour, on Tuesday, July 1, at 6:30 p.m. This month's topic is "The History of the Northern Kentucky Athletic Directors Hall of Fame."
Three distinguished individuals, all inductees in the Northern Kentucky Athletic Directors Hall of Fame, will be presenting at the event. They are Mike Bankemper, Charlie Coleman, and Maureen Kaiser.
Mike Bankemper, a stalwart of Campbell County High School for 40 years, coached wrestling and led teams to four state titles. He is also a member of the Northern Kentucky Athletic Directors Hall of Fame, among others.
Charlie Coleman, a Bellevue High School veteran, had a long and varied career as a teacher, assistant principal, athletic director, and head football coach. He holds a school-record 91 wins and is a member of multiple halls of fame, including the Northern Kentucky Athletic Directors Hall of Fame.
Maureen Kaiser, who coached St. Henry’s volleyball for 33 seasons, is another esteemed presenter. She recently won a 2021 state title and has earned numerous accolades. Like her fellow presenters, she is also a member of the Northern Kentucky Athletic Directors Hall of Fame.
Grady Brown, another presenter, is a sports enthusiast who played and coached baseball for several institutions. He is a member of eight Hall of Fames.
Mike Swauger, another inductee in the Northern Kentucky Athletic Directors Hall of Fame, will also be presenting. Swauger served as public address announcer for Bellevue football for 35 seasons and other high-profile regional sporting events. He dedicated his 30-year coaching career to Bellevue High School, serving 23 years as head basketball coach.
Swauger's teams won three conference championships, appeared in 10 regional tournaments, and twice competed in the All "A" Classic Championship. His contributions to Northern Kentucky athletics extend beyond coaching, as he played a key role in organizing the 9th Region All-A Classic Tournament and the statewide All "A" Classic.
Swauger has been recognised with numerous honors, including city proclamations of "Mike Swauger Day" and the Key to the City upon his retirement. He has also been a master of ceremonies for several athletic banquets and a regular contributor to the Bellevue Community News since 2019.
Registration is required for Zoom participation in the NKY History Hour. Participants can receive a Zoom link online. The event will also be streamed live on BCM's Facebook page. All recordings of past NKY History Hour episodes can be viewed at www.bcmuseum.org.
