Mastering Advanced Tactics in Digital Narrative Creation
Doug Gorham: From Broadcast Journalism to Digital Photography at Vandenberg Space Force Base
Doug Gorham, a former broadcast journalist, has found a new passion in digital photography, particularly in capturing the excitement of intramural sports games at Vandenberg Space Force Base.
Gorham volunteered his services, covering and photographing various sports games, including volleyball, soccer, basketball, and football. His dedication didn't stop at the field; he also photographed the trophy presentation at the end of the competition and did portrait shots of the top athletes.
Intrigued by the visual storytelling aspect of photography, Gorham pursued an Undergraduate Certificate in Digital Photography at Sessions. This decision allowed him to learn modern photography production tools and techniques, such as Lightroom Classic and Photoshop, and apply them confidently across various genres.
One of his favourite courses was Landscape Photography, taught by Taz Tally. This course provided Gorham with the opportunity to learn and practice different types of landscape photography, and some of his images were even displayed in the Sessions Student Gallery.
Gorham's photography work and portfolio can be found on his website, doug-gorham-photography.com.
After graduation, Gorham plans to continue developing his photography skills, travel, and take landscape photographs at different locations. He also intends to continue shooting sports events at Vandenberg Space Force Base and taking photographs to complement stories for publications.
Gorham's passion for photography extends beyond the technical aspects. He values the feedback and mentorship provided by the Digital Photography Program instructors, Felicia Kieselhorst, Taz Tally, and Melanie Fiander.

Before his transition to digital photography, Gorham received photography training at the Defense Information School at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Indiana, during his time in the Navy. His favourite story he wrote was about the Imperial Beach Pier in San Diego, which he approached as a travel writer.
Looking ahead, Gorham plans to cover more intramural sports at Vandenberg Space Force Base, continuing to capture the spirit of competition and camaraderie in his photographs.
With his newfound passion in digital photography, Doug Gorham leverages technology to enhance his visual storytelling, mastering modern tools like Lightroom Classic and Photoshop for various genres. Embracing a lifestyle centered around education and self-development, Gorham continues to progress in his photography journey, planning to further his skills, travel, and capture landscapes while complementing sports stories for publications.
