London's Le Cordon Bleu Institute announces the recipient of a substantial scholarship record.
Le Cordon Bleu London, a renowned institution grounded in traditional French culinary techniques, concluded its 130th anniversary Scholarship Competition on Monday with Emma Keenan from Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, being announced as the overall winner.
The competition, which took place at the school's Bloomsbury campus, brought together 16 finalists who presented their culinary creations to a panel that included Emily Roux and Chris Galvin. This year marked the most competitive scholarship to date, with Le Cordon Bleu London awarding its largest-ever scholarship prize, valued at over £90,000.
As part of the prize, Keenan secured an internship at CORD restaurant, mentorship from Michel Roux Jr. and Chris Galvin, and an overnight stay at The Savoy. In addition, she was given a one-year membership to CKBK and a custom chefs' jacket from Clement Design.
Two runners-up, Melissa Kuo and Ruby Goodens, also received awards and internships, which are new additions to this year's competition. Kuo was given a place on either the Basic Cuisine or Basic Patisserie three-month course, while Goodens was awarded a spot on the Summer Essentials course. Both Kuo and Goodens will also receive a two-week internship at CORD and additional prizes from The Savoy and Phaidon.
Emma Keenan's winning dish was a Savoury Choux Ring featuring mushrooms, mascarpone, hazelnut, and parmesan craquelin. Her win was described as a 'life-changing' moment by herself.
Le Cordon Bleu trains over 20,000 students each year and offers courses in cuisine, pâtisserie, wine, nutrition, and hospitality management. The institution, which was founded in 1895, is a global network of over 35 culinary and hospitality schools in more than 20 countries.
The competition continues to offer life-changing opportunities for aspiring chefs regardless of background, age, or location. However, there is no information available about the date of the next Le Cordon Bleu Scholarship Competition. Despite this, the expanded recognition for runners-up this year signals a promising future for the competition.
