Learning Session at Lernort Town Hall for Kids

In the heart of Augsburg, a unique educational experience awaits young minds. The "Children's Workshop Learning Location Town Hall," a participatory initiative of the Office for Social Integration/LAB IN Participation in the Department of Education and Migration, invites children in grades 3 and 4 to engage with the city's history, democracy, and administration.

This immersive workshop, originally held at the Augsburg Town Hall, will temporarily relocate to the city library (S-Forum) from October 2024 due to the Town Hall's closure, and is expected to continue until approximately December 2026.

The workshop kicks off with a children's rally about the history of Augsburg and the Town Hall, exploring the city model and delving into the history room. School classes will have the opportunity to learn, marvel, and play a game in the Golden Hall.

The highlight of the workshop is the "Children's City Council Meeting" in the large meeting hall, where students learn about the city and city administration, and participate in a mock city council meeting. This interactive session not only educates but also empowers children, encouraging them to discuss what topics are important for a city to function well and what they would do if they were mayor.

Throughout the workshop, children are introduced to interesting facts and democratic values, fostering a sense of civic responsibility and engagement. The workshop also includes kindergarten and after-school care facilities, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience for all young participants.

Mayor Martina Wild occasionally joins the workshop conversations with children, adding a personal touch to the educational journey. Teachers in grades 3 and 4 of municipal primary schools, as well as kindergartens and after-school care facilities, can register for free with Frau Dr. Roberta Moncalero, who can be reached at [email protected].

The workshop seeks to understand what children think about life and coexistence in the city, providing a platform for young voices to be heard and valued. By engaging with these issues, the workshop aims to promote a more inclusive and supportive environment for all children in Augsburg.

  1. Engaging in a collaborative initiative, the Office for Social Integration/LAB IN Participation in the Department of Education and Migration is actively implementing a policy-and-legislation approach through the "Children's Workshop Learning Location Town Hall," promoting education-and-self-development and lifelong-learning by encouraging young minds to discuss important city topics.
  2. In addition to the workshop's historical and interactive elements, the general-news segment includes a mock city council meeting, where students learn about city policy and administration, reinforcing the importance of democratic values in their learning process.
  3. Emphasizing the value of learning beyond the classroom, the "Children's Workshop Learning Location Town Hall" serves as a platform for young voices to be heard, fostering a sense of politics and civic engagement in line with the city's lifelong-learning goals.
