Law Enforcement Training: Simulated Crisis Drills Held at School in Ratekau

On September 13, 2025, a significant training service took place at the César-Klein School in Ratekau, involving approximately 500 participants. Among them were police officers from Lübeck and Ostholstein, special forces, teachers, and students.

The exercise aimed to strengthen and further optimize the action competence and action security of all participants. It was prepared for several months and included two threat scenarios in a real environment and original school setting.

In the morning, an amok alarm was simulated, with police officers initially overpowering an armed perpetrator and caring for severely injured people. In the afternoon, special forces of the State Criminal Police Office searched for an armed perpetrator who had allegedly injured several people according to the fictional scenario.

Interfaces and communication between the uniformed police, criminal police, special forces, rescue service, and school staff were crucial in the exercise. The cooperation between the police and the rescue service is essential for saving lives and caring for the injured, and the exercise included the handover of injured persons from the police to the secured area for further treatment by the rescue service.

Criminal police were conducting investigations at the scene of the exercise to identify a potentially fleeing perpetrator, coordinate search measures, and gain insight into the danger posed by the perpetrator. Coaches, deployment trainers, observers, referees, and supervisors closely accompanied the exercise.

Bernd Olbrich, director of the police directorate of Lübeck, praised the exceptional dedication of all participants. Volunteer teachers and staff of the school participated in their own roles during the exercise, contributing to a realistic service scenario. Actors with fictional injuries also contributed to the exercise's realism.

In the coming weeks, the experiences and results of the exercise will be analysed and evaluated. For further inquiries, contact the Press Office of Polizeidirektion Lübeck, Ulli Fritz Gerlach, Press Spokesperson (contact details provided).

The Crisis Intervention Team of the Lübeck Fire Department, the Municipal Order Office of the district, the Rescue service of the district Ostholstein, and the Fire Department Ratekau also participated in the exercise at César-Klein School in Ratekau on 13.09.2025. Participation in the exercise was a challenge for the teachers and staff, involving psychological and emotional pressure.

The exercise was conducted as realistically as possible to prepare participants for critical decision-making under high risk in a real emergency. No new information about the number of injured people or the exact scenarios of the afternoon exercise was provided in this paragraph. No new information about the perpetrator or the outcome of the exercise was provided either.
