Latvia to Host Gen-E Festival in Riga, Showcasing Global Student Innovation

Latvia is set to host the Gen-E festival in Riga in March 2024, promising an 'unforgettable adventure' for participants from over 40 countries and 20 European nations. The event will showcase student companies and startups, including Latvia's own Blum from Madona State Gymnasium, who developed a successful hydroponic garden for home use.

The festival, hosted by Junior Achievement Latvia, will feature competitions for European Student Company of the Year and Student Startup of the Year. Latvia has a strong track record in student enterprise, having previously hosted the International Student Company Festival in 2023. The Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) has played a pivotal role in developing the student company program.

Ieva Jāgere, Director General of LIAA, emphasizes the importance of entrepreneurship education for Latvia's future Gen Z and Gen X. Riga Teika Secondary School has already received recognition for its excellence in entrepreneurship education at the festival. Last year, Latvia's Fortfull Group from Ogre Technical School represented the country at the Gen-E Europe competition, showcasing an innovative wristwatch designed for visually impaired users.

The Gen-E festival in Riga promises to be a global showcase of student innovation and entrepreneurship. With Latvia's commitment to entrepreneurship education and successful student companies like Blum, the country is well-positioned to make a significant impact at the event.
