Latest Developments in Google's Education Update
In the latest Google for Education update, Google has rolled out a series of improvements aimed at enhancing the learning experience for educators, students, and administrators.
One of the key features introduced is co-presenting in Slides within Meet. This update allows two teachers to manage slides simultaneously while presenting to a class over the Meet system, making collaborative presentations more seamless.
Google has also added AI to Meet, enabling the platform to recognise when a student raises their hand and automatically activating the hand raise icon.
The smart canvas in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides has been upgraded to support collaboration, allowing teachers to work together more effectively. The smart canvas now offers features such as the ability to add a timer for class activities, insert a stopwatch, and create custom building blocks.
Google Classroom has been updated to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) for creating practice sets. The AI will focus on skills such as solving equations with decimals or writing thesis statements, offering helpful hints to students who are struggling with practice sets based on selected skills.
YouTube has received a teacher-focused AI upgrade, allowing teachers to add interactive questions to videos.
In addition to these updates, Google has also added the ability to add voting chips within Docs.
The updates are part of Google's ongoing focus on how advancements in AI and data analytics can impact education. The Willms-Gymnasium in Delmenhorst and the Maria-Ward-Schule Kempten are examples of schools that are actively incorporating AI-based functions, participating in the AI4Schools initiative.
Google emphasises that the updates are designed to make the learning experience more collaborative, accessible, and privacy-forward. The company continues to lead the way in integrating AI and technology into the educational sector, paving the way for a more interactive and efficient learning environment.
