Karlsruhe School Wins €30k Prize for Exceptional Democracy Education
The Ernst-Reuter-Community School in Karlsruhe has been recognised for its outstanding efforts in democracy education. The school, with around 370 students and 40 teachers, has won the Theme Prize Democracy Education, coming with a 30,000 euro endowment.
The school's approach to democracy education involves students in decision-making processes and community events. Projects include visiting senior homes, organising school events, and hosting discussions with teachers, parents, and external guests. This hands-on approach fosters responsibility, participation, and media competence, preparing students to be active citizens.
The school's commitment to democracy education has been previously acknowledged. In 2024, it received the Baden-Württemberg Democracy Prize. Now, it has been further honoured with the Theme Prize Democracy Education. Minister of Culture Theresa Schopper congratulated the school, praising its dedication to teaching democracy through active participation.
The Ernst-Reuter-Community School's win is a testament to its dedication to democracy education. With its diverse student body and inclusive environment, the school is preparing young minds to be responsible, engaged citizens. The 30,000 euro prize will further support these efforts.
