IIT Kanpur & CII Centre Proves Effective in Managing Infectious Diseases

A new centre, the IIT Kanpur - CII Risk Surveillance Centre, has proven its effectiveness in managing the spread of infections, particularly the Coronavirus. Supported by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), the centre has developed reliable models to track and analyse the trajectory of the virus, including new mutants.

The centre's success is built on the robust risk surveillance system it employs. This system has been found to be effective in dealing with the spread of infections, as seen in countries that have implemented similar systems. The SUTRA model, developed by IIT Kanpur and the SUTRA consortium, is a key tool used by the centre. It has proven reliable in analysing the trajectory of Covid-19, even with the emergence of new mutants.

The centre has produced two reports: 'Spread of Delta Wave in India' and 'Spread of Omicron Wave in the World'. These reports highlight the centre's ability to understand the co-circulation of infections and identify risk factors. The centre's launch is part of CII's multi-pronged COVID-19 related interventions and aims to strengthen public health systems in the future.

The IIT Kanpur - CII Risk Surveillance Centre has demonstrated its value in managing the spread of infections. Its robust risk surveillance system and reliable models, such as the SUTRA model, have proven effective in tracking and analysing the trajectory of the Coronavirus. As the world continues to face new health challenges, the centre's work is crucial in strengthening public health systems and minimising the spread of infections.
