University School of Automation and Robotics (USAR) Continues to Improve Placement Scenario

The University School of Automation and Robotics (USAR), part of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), has been making steady progress in its placement scenario over the past few years, despite some ongoing challenges.

Improvements

By 2025, some students from the Automation and Robotics branch at USAR have secured placements in reputed companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Intel, TCS, and Viper, with packages reportedly as high as 18 LPA and multiple internship opportunities offered on and off campus [1][2].

The placement cell at USAR shares resources with GGSIPU’s main campus, enhancing access to companies and improving placement support. Internships are now mandatory, which helps students develop relevant skills to enhance employability [2].

The faculty at USAR is highly qualified, with Ph.D. holders and IIT graduates among its ranks, contributing to a curriculum aligned with industry standards. This improvement in faculty quality is expected to further boost students’ readiness for the job market [2].

Infrastructure improvements include multiple specialized labs (Mechatronics, Robotics, IoT) providing hands-on experience relevant to automation and robotics fields, strengthening practical skills required during placements [3].

Challenges

Placement rates remain modest; only about 30% of the students from the Automation and Robotics branch reportedly secured placements as of mid-2025, indicating a scope for growth in recruitment numbers [1].

The course is new and evolving, and some students indicate the syllabus lacks sufficient technical depth in certain areas, which could affect readiness and confidence during placements [1].

There is no fully stable and centralized Training & Placement system yet, historically leading to weaker campus placement strength and dependency on off-campus opportunities [5].

The small campus size and limited facilities beyond academics could indirectly impact student experience during placement preparation phases [1].

Recent Developments

In 2022, the second batch of B.Tech in Internet of Things (IIOT) started at USAR. However, the placement situation did not improve in the final year (2025-2026) [4].

Stricter attendance rules were implemented in the second year, and the focus shifted to regular classes, academic projects, and skill-building. All classes were taken by permanent professors, and more permanent staff were added in the second year [4].

More technical and non-technical clubs were formed, but workshops or seminars related to placement preparation and skill enhancement were rare [4].

New events such as Garba Night, Diwali Mela, and improved cultural fests were introduced. However, the canteen was still under construction during the first year [4].

Few good companies visited the campus during the initial years, but this is expected to improve as the program matures and USAR continues to build industry connections [1].

In summary, USAR has shown promising progress in placing students in prestigious firms with competitive packages as the program matures, supported by skilled faculty and enhanced industry linkages. However, challenges remain in scaling placement percentage, deepening curriculum rigor, and stabilizing the training and placement operations [1][2][5].

This evolving placement scenario reflects the school’s nascent status but strong potential given ongoing improvements in infrastructure, faculty, and industry engagement.
