Health enthusiast Jillian Michaels advocates for stricter regulations on food additives, particularly food dyes.
Jillian Michaels Advocates for a Healthier America at Turning Point USA Summit
Fitness trainer, entrepreneur, and media personality Jillian Michaels recently spoke at the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit in Tampa, Florida, where she expressed her support for the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement. Michaels, who is known for her advocacy for health and wellness, emphasized the need for a complete overhaul of American consumption of food and pharmaceuticals.
Michaels believes that ingredient bans should go beyond food dyes, and she specifically mentioned the synthetic food dye Red 3 and Red No. 40. In January, the FDA banned Red 3 from foods, dietary supplements, and ingested medicines due to its link with cancer. The Health and Human Services (HHS) aims to work with industry to eliminate six remaining synthetic dyes - FD&C Green No. 3, FD&C Red No. 40, FD&C Yellow No. 5, FD&C Yellow No. 6, FD&C Blue No. 1, and FD&C Blue No. 2 - from the food supply by the end of next year. The HHS also plans to initiate the process to revoke authorization for Citrus Red No. 2 and Orange B synthetic food colorings.
Michaels made a specific reference to the use of psychedelics for veterans and people with addiction under medical supervision. She encouraged people to appreciate small wins along the way in the process of change and emphasized the importance of personal accountability for health, as it cannot be fully provided by the government. Michaels also expressed her support for alternative methods of treatment, including the use of psychedelics for therapeutic purposes.
However, Michaels acknowledged that changes won't happen instantly in the overhaul of American consumption of food and pharmaceuticals. She stated that the MAHA movement is up against four of the biggest lobbies in the country: Big Ag, Big Food, Big Pharma, and Big Insurance. The four major lobbies opposing Robert Kennedy Jr.'s MAHA movement are primarily associated with Big Pharma, the US military/security complex, and interests aligned with maintaining their power and profits, as Kennedy is seen as a threat to these entities' control and earnings.
Michaels' speech at the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit comes as the HHS aims to establish a national standard and timeline for the food industry to transition from petrochemical-based dyes to natural alternatives. Artificial food colorings were originally manufactured from coal tar, and most synthetic food dyes today are made from petroleum.
The article does not provide any information on the stance of the MAHA movement on other issues or Robert Kennedy Jr.'s vision that Michaels wants to see come to fruition. Nonetheless, Michaels' advocacy for a healthier America is a step towards a more conscious and responsible approach to food and pharmaceutical consumption.
