Gütersloh honors the varied aspects of fair trade celebration

Get ready for a week-long celebration of fair trade and sustainability as Berliner Platz in Berlin, and various locations in Gütersloh, join the nationwide Fair Week from September 12 to 26, 2025.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the World Shop in Gütersloh, which will kick off the festivities with a colourful program on September 13. The Fair Week, Germany's largest annual campaign for fair trade, involves around 2,000 actions nationwide.

Gütersloh, a Fairtrade town, is participating in the Fair Week with a diverse program. Visitors can have their ecological footprint calculated, learn about climate-friendly everyday tips, and get creative with do-it-yourself activities on Berliner Platz on September 22.

World Shops, action groups, companies, supermarkets, catering businesses, and other initiatives in Gütersloh and across Germany will participate in the Fair Week. The event invites individuals and organizations to take part in fair trade activities, either by organizing their own events or joining existing ones.

Leif Pollex, climate officer of the city of Gütersloh, states that the anniversary year aims to make diversity visible and actively involve the city society. Ulrich Zumkier, head of the municipal environmental protection department, emphasizes the diversity of initiatives in Gütersloh.

The Fair Week is coordinated by the Forum Fair Trade, the World Shop umbrella organization, and Fairtrade Germany. The program flyer for Fair Week events will be available soon at multiple locations in the city and online at www.fairtrade.our website.

On September 17, the House of Encounter invites to a fair breakfast with vegan spreads. A lecture in the world shop on September 23 at 7:30 pm will look at the history and future of fair trade. On September 20, the steering group for fair trade presents itself at the Citizens' Day on the Theodor-Heuss-Platz.
