Ghanaian tech entrepreneur, Dikan, introduces "HerPress" scholarship program to bolster female journalists in the country
========================================================================================
The Dikan Center, a leading organisation dedicated to media development, has launched the HerPress 3-month journalism program. This initiative aims to empower, train, and support early to mid-career women journalists in Ghana, providing them with a unique opportunity to grow their careers and make a difference in the media landscape.
The program, which runs from June to August, has several key objectives. These include amplifying women's voices in the media, strengthening press freedom, providing legal support and financial assistance, and creating opportunities and partnerships to help women journalists continue their work safely and effectively.
To achieve these objectives, the HerPress program offers a comprehensive support system. This includes one-on-one mentorship, workshops focusing on investigative journalism, leadership, safety, and community reporting, a stipend for participants, and a media campaign to support the journalism projects produced by fellows.
The program also features a speaker series with local and international journalists, and concludes with a graduation and networking event.
The deadline to apply for the HerPress program is 7th June, 2025. Interested applicants can submit their applications here.
The HerPress initiative addresses the challenges faced by Ghanaian women journalists such as underrepresentation, unequal pay, gender bias, and workplace harassment. By offering a supportive environment and resources, the HerPress program seeks to create a more inclusive and equitable media industry in Ghana.
The HerPress program is supported by the Australian High Commission in Ghana. For more information, you may want to contact the Dikan Center directly or monitor their official channels for future calls, as the most recent deadline appears to have passed.

Engaging in this program, participants can explore various aspects of 'education-and-self-development' through workshops focusing on investigative journalism, leadership, and safety. By becoming part of the HerPress community, these women will be contributing to 'health-and-wellness' and 'womens-health' issues, as well as amplifying their voices on 'lifestyle' and societal issues.
