Germany Lags in ePA Race, Can Learn From Finland, Estonia, and Denmark

A recent study by inav GmbH has ranked European countries based on their progress in implementing and using electronic patient records (ePA). Finland and Denmark top the list, while Germany finds itself in 19th position. The study highlights countries like Estonia and Denmark as models for Germany due to their advanced ePA systems and strong interoperability.

Germany performs well in legal framework conditions for ePA implementation. However, it lags behind in the 'Contents and functions of the ePA' category, indicating areas for improvement. The study suggests that Germany could learn from countries like Slovenia, which ranks 5th, to enhance its ePA strategy. Estonia and Denmark, known for their successful nationwide digital healthcare systems, can also serve as inspiration for Germany's ePA development.

The inav GmbH study provides a roadmap for Germany's ePA implementation. By learning from leading countries and focusing on areas of weakness, Germany can advance its ePA system and improve patient care nationwide.
