G9 transition receiving emphasis from both the circle and IHK: "Training underway!"
The Rhine-Kreis Neuss region continues to offer extensive opportunities for training across all sectors, as indicated by the figures provided by the Federal Employment Agency. As of July 1, 2025, there are 1,659 company-based training positions reported, with 993 still available. This represents a decrease of 74 positions compared to the same time last year.
District Administrator Hans-Jürgen Petrauschke emphasizes the importance of companies offering more training places now. He encourages businesses that have not offered training so far to consider creating apprenticeships. The IHK (Chamber of Industry and Commerce) Middle Rhine is also actively involved in this effort, organizing events such as "Check In Berufswelt" and apprentice speed datings to facilitate connections between businesses and potential trainees.
The IHK Managing Director, Jürgen Steinmetz, is advocating for increased focus on dual training, a system that combines classroom learning with on-the-job training. To further support career orientation, the Rhein-Kreis Neuss is engaged in initiatives like the Municipal Coordination Office and the "Economy for Schools" programme. The latter allows schools to arrange school visit dates with training companies from various industries, providing students with valuable insights into potential careers.
To address the growing interest in training, the zdi network Rhein-Kreis Neuss, an initiative focused on career and study orientation, collaborates with various partners. This network organizes career and study-oriented measures across various sectors, focusing on MINT (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology) fields. The zdi network also conducts workshops and competitions such as a robotics contest and offers programs focused on career orientation and training promotion for students.
In an effort to bring companies and young people together, the IHK Middle Rhine offers various services to help companies recruit new apprentices. Additionally, the "Targeted Recruitment" advisors assist in this process, helping to connect businesses with potential trainees. The "Training Ambassador" initiative involves apprentices and dual students reporting on their professions in general education schools, providing a first-hand account of what it's like to work in various fields.
Despite the decrease in available training positions, the number of individuals interested in training has increased by 300 compared to the same period last year. As of July 1, 2025, 2,521 individuals have registered with the employment agency in the Rhine-Kreis Neuss region, with 1,069 still without a position. This represents a decrease of 74 individuals compared to the same time last year who were without a training position.
Next year, the switch from G8 to G9 is expected to result in fewer applicants for training in 2026. However, the Rhine-Kreis Neuss remains committed to providing opportunities for those seeking training and encourages businesses to continue offering apprenticeships.
