Former U.S. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona Joins Yale School of Management Faculty
Miguel Cardona, the former U.S. Secretary of Education under President Biden, has joined Yale School of Management's faculty. At 27, he became Connecticut's youngest principal, and now, he's set to co-teach an elective course on education policy with Professor Seth Zimmerman.
Cardona's journey in education has been remarkable. Starting as a teacher in Meriden, he rose to become Connecticut's commissioner of education, and later, the nation's top education official. Now, he returns to academia to co-teach 'Education Policy' with Zimmerman during the 2025-26 academic year.
The course will delve into crucial topics such as accountability in education, college access, and the economic returns of education. Cardona and Zimmerman aim to challenge students to reflect on policy decision-making processes and how institutions like Yale fit into the broader higher education landscape. Additionally, Cardona will participate in programs run by The Broad Center to engage with school system leaders.
Miguel Cardona's appointment at Yale School of Management brings a wealth of practical experience to the institution. Through his course and other engagements, he will provide students and leaders alike with valuable insights into education policy and practice.
