Former NFL player Chad Johnson seeks to replace Shannon Sharpe in his ESPN role following his dismissal

Shannon Sharpe, a popular host on ESPN's First Take, has been let go from the show following a settlement in a sexual assault lawsuit. The lawsuit, which involved a plaintiff more than 30 years younger than Sharpe, has led to his absence since late April 2023.

Since his departure, speculation has been rife about who might replace Sharpe on First Take. While some media reports suggest ESPN might be targeting a significant sports figure, there is no confirmed mention of Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson as that replacement or even as a candidate at this time.

Sharpe had been a prominent part of First Take since its inception in 2023, but his exit has generated discussion about potential replacements. However, no public timeline has been given by ESPN concerning when a new host will be named or who exactly will fill the seat.

Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson, who co-hosts the "Nightcap" podcast with Sharpe, has expressed his desire to have a permanent spot on First Take. Johnson appeared on First Take earlier this year to promote EA Sports' Madden NFL 26. He also expressed appreciation for Stephen A. Smith appearing on the show during his vacation.

Despite the ongoing speculation, there is currently no credible information or official reports that Johnson is being considered as a potential host to replace Sharpe on First Take.

Sharpe originally joined First Take in the fall of 2023 following his exit from FS1. In a recent development, Sharpe expressed gratitude for his time at ESPN, stating it gave him the opportunity to bring his audience to the network. He also expressed regret over the timing of the news of his firing, which overshadowed his brother Sterling Sharpe's Pro Football Hall of Fame induction.

Sharpe has since "profusely apologized" to his older brother Sterling Sharpe, and the Sharpe brothers have reportedly reconciled.

Johnson, on the other hand, has been vocal about his interest in taking Sharpe's seat on First Take after Sharpe was fired by ESPN. However, as of now, there is no confirmation on whether this will happen or not.
